Silver Prices Plunge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> were on course to clock worst weekly performance in last two months on Friday as possibility that the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a>, meanwhile, plunged in trading on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47242\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery lost 1.59% to $1,309.40 an ounce while spot gold fell 0.89% to $1,308.50 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was last down 1.00% to $126.39<\/p>\n<p>Speculation that the Fed will end its extremely accommodative monetary policy from the latter half of 2013 has put tremendous pressure on the metal, knocking off about 19% since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The next Federal open market committee meeting is scheduled on September 17-18 and speculation is rife that the Fed will scale down its $85billion worth bond purchase program by $10 billion to $15 billion from September.<\/p>\n<p>The demand for safe-haven bets have also dried out as the U.S and Russia got closer to chart out a resolution which would push Damascus to allow international community to observe its chemical weapons program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGold&#8217;s drop at the beginning of the week was mostly due to the waning safe-haven buying after the diplomatic action in Syria,\u201d said Bernard Sin, Senior Vice President at MKS SA, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now it&#8217;s all about the Fed tapering talks and expectations that the central bank will start, albeit slowly, as soon as this month,\u201d added Sin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures plunged 2.07% to $21.69 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>In late trading, the iShares Silver Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SLV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: SLV<\/a>) was down 0.33% to $20.99, and the ProShares Ultra Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=AGQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: AGQ<\/a>) was down 0.68% to $20.45.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nr_popular_placeholder\" data-permalink=\"http:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-fall-to-five-week-low-silver-prices-plunge\/47242\" data-title=\"Gold Prices Fall To Five-week Low;
