{"id":47287,"date":"2013-09-17T08:17:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T08:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-hover-near-1320-silver-prices-edge-down\/47281\/"},"modified":"2013-09-17T08:17:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-17T08:17:00","slug":"gold-prices-hover-near-1320-silver-prices-edge-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-hover-near-1320-silver-prices-edge-down\/47287\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Hover Near $1,320, Silver Prices Edge Down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> futures remained almost flat during Asian trading hours on Tuesday as investors wait for a policy rate statement from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices have edged lower in early trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47287\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery inched down 0.06% to $1,317.00 an ounce while spot gold gained 0.44% to $1,319.15 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) gained 0.74% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading to $127.39 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Silver futures edged down 0.25% to $21.95 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed\u2019s two day open market committee meeting (FOMC) will commence from Tuesday and investors are keen to know at what pace the bank will start to scale down its economic stimulating measures.<\/p>\n<p>Bullion, which clocked 12 successive bull runs until 2012 in the backdrop of extremely easy-money environment, has lost about 19% since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Expectations that the Fed will start to wind down its bond purchase program (quantitative easing) prompted investors to shun non-interest yielding assets such as gold.<\/p>\n<p>Gold prices tend to slip when central banks adopt tighter monetary policy. This is because; <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/bonds\/today.aspx\">interest rates<\/a> rise in this environment and gold being a non-interest bearing asset, does not provide any incentive to investors.<\/p>\n<p>Still, many market participants believe that the tapering process will not be instant.
