{"id":47297,"date":"2013-09-17T14:02:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T14:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-ease-feds-policy-rate-announcement-eyed\/47291\/"},"modified":"2013-09-17T14:02:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-17T14:02:00","slug":"gold-and-silver-prices-ease-feds-policy-rate-announcement-eyed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-ease-feds-policy-rate-announcement-eyed\/47297\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold and Silver Prices Ease, Fed\u2019s Policy Rate Announcement Eyed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> pared earlier gains to turn lower on Tuesday as investors remained wary to take bets on non-interest bearing assets amid strong possibility that the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also slipped in trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47297\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery fell 0.60% to $1,309.90 an ounce while spot gold edged down 0.31% to $1,309.26 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was almost flat at $126.50.<\/p>\n<p>Bullion, which is down about 20% since the beginning of the year, has been hit hard due to several factors.<\/p>\n<p>While speculation that the Fed will reduce the pace of bond purchases kept pressure on prices, improving global macroeconomic environment and lack of inflationary pressure has also hurt the metal\u2019s both safe-haven and inflation hedge appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today, the National Association of Home Builders\u2019 survey showed that the business sentiment among homebuilders was at a multi-year high.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed is likely to narrow the bond purchase program by $10 billion to $15 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou could potentially have a little bit of rallying if tapering comes in below expectations but in the longer-term you&#8217;d sell the rally as the Fed starts tightening its stimulus,\u201d said\u00a0 BofA Merrill Lynch analyst Michael Widmer, according to Reuters,<\/p>\n<p>The dollar Index eased on Tuesday but it failed to encourage investors. Normally, the U.S. dollar and gold prices move in opposite directions.
