{"id":47309,"date":"2013-09-18T08:32:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-18T08:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-hit-1300-as-investors-eye-feds-tapering-silver-prices-fall-sharply\/47304\/"},"modified":"2013-09-18T08:32:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-18T08:32:00","slug":"gold-prices-hit-1300-as-investors-eye-feds-tapering-silver-prices-fall-sharply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-hit-1300-as-investors-eye-feds-tapering-silver-prices-fall-sharply\/47309\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Hit $1,300 As Investors Eye Fed\u2019s Tapering; Silver Prices Fall Sharply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> extended losses during Asian trading hours on Wednesday to touch its five-week low level as investors continued to cut positions on the metal ahead of the conclusion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>\u2019s two-day open market meeting (FOMC). <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices, meanwhile, have fallen sharply in early trading on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47309\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery fell 0.73% to $1,299.80 an ounce while spot gold edged down 0.72% to $1,299.56.<\/p>\n<p>Silver futures plunged 1.17% to $21.53 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was down 0.84% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading $125.44.<\/p>\n<p>Following the conclusion of the FOMC, the Fed\u2019s chairman, Ben Bernanke will share bank\u2019s outlook on the U.S. economy, unemployment level but market participants will be more anxious to know at what pace the Fed will pull-back its economic stimulating measures.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed\u2019s extremely accommodating monetary policy has been the key factor behind gold\u2019s bull runs after the financial crises of 2008\/09 until 2012. Record low <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/bonds\/today.aspx\">interest rates<\/a> and rampant currency printing (quantitative easing) kept interest rates low which in turn prompted investors to look towards non-interest bearing assets such as gold.<\/p>\n<p>However, the U.S. macroeconomic environment has shown significant improvement in 2013, especially the job and housing market.
