Earnings beat analysts\u2019 expectation but revenue fell short of estimate. Shares fell in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47329\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For the latest quarter, the Redwood City, California based company posted a net income of $2.19 billion or 47 cents a share compared to a profit of $2.03 billion or 41 cents a share, in the year-earlier quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Stripping out onetime items, adjusted earnings stood at 59 cents a share compared to 53 cents a share, in the same period of last year. Analysts\u2019 consensus estimate was for earnings of 56 cents a share, according to a data compiled by Thomson Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue for the quarter rose 2% to $8.37 billion. On adjusted basis, (taking into account deferred income) revenue rose to $8.38 billion from $8.21 billion, in the same period of last year. Analysts had forecasted revenue of $8.48 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue from the software division rose to $6.08 billion from $5.71 billion, in the same period of last year. Revenue from cloud subscriptions and software licensing increased to $1.65 billion from $1.57 billion, in the year earlier quarter.<\/p>\n<p>However, revenue from hardware systems division fell to $1.26 billion from $1.35 billion, in the same period of last year.
