{"id":47366,"date":"2013-09-20T10:53:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-20T10:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-gains-as-panic-sell-off-halts\/47360\/"},"modified":"2013-09-20T10:53:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T10:53:00","slug":"forex-market-update-dollar-index-gains-as-panic-sell-off-halts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-gains-as-panic-sell-off-halts\/47366\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex Market Update: Dollar Index Gains as Panic Sell-Off Halts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The dollar index recovered somewhat on Friday after falling to a seven week trough earlier this week as the panic sell-off of the U.S. unit, which was triggered after the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> surprisingly opted to not taper the quantitative easing, halted as investors unwound negative bets.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47366\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Dollar Index, a measure on U.S. unit\u2019s performance against a basket of six major traded currencies, edged up 0.10% to 80.43<\/p>\n<p>The WSJ Index, which uses slightly broader <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/currency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currency<\/a> basket, rose 0.12% to 72.98.<\/p>\n<p>The dollar index, which fell to its seven week low on Wednesday following Fed\u2019s surprise decision, gained some traction on Thursday as spate of better-than-expected U.S. data releases supported the greenback.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it is believed that the dollar will remain under pressure in the short-term as the Fed hasn\u2019t provided any clear indication over when it intends to start scaling back its bond purchase program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t see any recovery in the dollar just yet. FX markets didn&#8217;t react too much to the positive U.S. data.
