{"id":47592,"date":"2013-10-01T08:25:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-01T08:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-edge-lower-6\/47553\/"},"modified":"2013-10-01T08:25:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-01T08:25:00","slug":"gold-and-silver-prices-edge-lower-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-edge-lower-6\/47592\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold and Silver Prices Edge Lower"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> futures pared earlier small gains to turn lower during Asian trading hours on Tuesday as the demand for safe-haven bets failed to pick up even after lawmakers in Washington failed to reach a deal over deciding the budget limit, resulting in partial government shutdown. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also edged lower in early trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47592\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery slipped 0.17% to $1,324.80 an ounce while <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">spot gold<\/a> slid 0.12% to $1,325.40 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was almost flat at $128.10.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures edged down 0.36% to $21.63 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers had to cut a deal before the midnight of Oct. 1; but the impasse continued.<\/p>\n<p>Prices fell as market participants expect that Washington will sooner than later agree on a temporary solution, which will allow the functioning of federal agencies and program.<\/p>\n<p>Market participants will now wait to see whether the Congress can meet a more important deadline in mid-October to increase the debt-ceiling limit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShould the political wrangling continue over the debt-ceiling negotiations mid-month, this could provide the impetus for gold to break out of its $1,300 to 1,350 range,\u201d said Victor Thianpiriya, an analyst at ANZ in Singapore, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe market is not putting on a big net position which makes me think that when we get a breakout, it is likely to be sizeable,\u201d added Thianpiriya.<\/p>\n<p>Easing Physical Side Demand<\/p>\n<p>According to Reuters, sales of gold coins and bars at Perth Mint more than doubled from the last month in September but remained 17% lower than the same period of last year.<\/p>\n<p>Markets in China were shut due to a national holiday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nr_popular_placeholder\" data-permalink=\"http:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-edge-lower-12\/47592\" data-title=\"Gold and Silver Prices Edge Lower\"><\/div>\n<p><script id=\"mNCC\" language=\"javascript\">  medianet_width='600';
