{"id":47737,"date":"2013-10-08T08:13:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-08T08:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-silver-prices-edge-lower\/47732\/"},"modified":"2013-10-08T08:13:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-08T08:13:00","slug":"gold-silver-prices-edge-lower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-silver-prices-edge-lower\/47737\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold, Silver Prices Edge Lower"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> pared earlier gains to edged lower during Asian trading hours on Tuesday as investors are relatively reluctant to take bets on safe-haven assets amid widely held notion that the U.S., will not default on its debt. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also edged lower in early trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47737\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures for December delivery edged down 0.20% to $1,322.50 an ounce while spot gold inched up 0.05% to $1,321.90 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) slipped 0.11% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading to $127.50.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures fell 0.25% to $22.33 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Monday, gold prices jumped more than 1% as broadly lower dollar and weakness in equity markets prompted investors to seek safety in bullion. Nonetheless, the metal\u2019s safe-haven appeal has mainly failed to burnish unlike September 2011, when bullion prices touched a record high of $1,920 due to U.S. fiscal policy and euro zone concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Market participants are hoping that lawmakers will prevent historic default by reaching an eleventh hour agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Moody\u2019s chief, Raymond McDaniel has already ruled out U.S. debt default.<\/p>\n<p>echoing McDaniel\u2019s though, Alexis Garatti, a macroeconomist at Haitong International Research in Hong Kong, said,\u201d There won&#8217;t be any default on the U.S. debt as I don&#8217;t think Congress will want to take that risk,\u201d according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will probably have a last minute agreement,\u201d added Garatti.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the physical side demand in Asia is poised to improve.
