{"id":47762,"date":"2013-10-09T08:21:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T08:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-head-southwards-as-metal-fails-to-breach-next-key-resistance-level-silver-prices-also-drop\/47758\/"},"modified":"2013-10-09T08:21:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-09T08:21:00","slug":"gold-prices-head-southwards-as-metal-fails-to-breach-next-key-resistance-level-silver-prices-also-drop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-head-southwards-as-metal-fails-to-breach-next-key-resistance-level-silver-prices-also-drop\/47762\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Head Southwards as Metal Fails to Breach Next Key Resistance Level; Silver Prices Also Drop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> fell sharply during Asian trading hours on Wednesday as the metal\u2019s failure to breach its next key resistance level prompted investors to unwind positive bets, notwithstanding continued policy standoff in Washington. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> have also edged lower in early trading on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47762\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures for December delivery fell 1.00% to $1,311.40 an ounce while spot gold lost 0.55% to $1,311 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) slipped 0.62% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading to $126.61.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures dropped 1.31% to $22.15 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>During early Asian trading hours, gold prices held steady as continued impasse meant that the partial government shutdown will enter its seventh day on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>However, the bigger threat arising due to the policy paralysis is possibility of U.S. sovereign debt default, which will be a catastrophic event for global financial markets.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers will have to reach an agreement over the debt-ceiling issue by Oct. 17 deadline.
