{"id":47776,"date":"2013-10-09T13:54:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T13:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-drift-towards-1300-an-ounce-silver-prices-fall-sharply\/47769\/"},"modified":"2013-10-09T13:54:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-09T13:54:00","slug":"gold-prices-drift-towards-1300-an-ounce-silver-prices-fall-sharply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-drift-towards-1300-an-ounce-silver-prices-fall-sharply\/47776\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Drift Towards $1,300 an Ounce; Silver Prices Fall Sharply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> were heading towards a sharply lower close on Wednesday as the dollar turned broadly higher amid news reports that President Obama was likely to nominate Janet Yellen as the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also fell sharply in trading on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47776\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Yellen is known to keep a very \u201cdovish\u201d stance on monetary policy, and her appointment raises the possibility that the Fed might not hurriedly pull back its economic stimulating measures, which will be supportive for the U.S. economy along with the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery plunged 1.59% to $1,303.60 an ounce while spot gold lost 0.85% to $1,307.05 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was last down 1.01% to $126.11<\/p>\n<p>The looming policy stalemate in Washington (debt-ceiling and budget cut issues) also failed to encourage investors to take bets in safe-haven assets such as gold, probably signaling that market participants are anticipating an eleventh-hour deal over the debt-ceiling issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere doesn&#8217;t seem to have been much interest triggered as a result of this situation in the United States, and the market has struggled to maintain any headway,\u201d said Simon Weeks, head of precious metals at ScotiaMocatta, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has to be a view that the situation is eventually going to be resolved,\u201d added Weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, lack of economic data releases have also kept bullion investors clueless, prompting them to stay in sidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today (During Asian trading hours), the metal held its ground but failure to cross its next key resistance level of $1,336 an ounce triggered sell-off.
