{"id":47862,"date":"2013-10-14T08:18:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-14T08:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-silver-prices-gain\/47855\/"},"modified":"2013-10-14T08:18:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-14T08:18:00","slug":"gold-silver-prices-gain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-silver-prices-gain\/47862\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold, Silver Prices Gain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> recovered some of its lost ground during Asian trading hours on Monday but remained below $1,300 an ounce as lack of progress made during the weekend budget talks, has rekindled concerns over debt-default, prompting investors to hold cash for the time being. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> have also edged higher in early trading on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47862\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures for December delivery climbed 1.12% to $1,282.30 an ounce while spot gold added 0.73% to $1,281.91 an ounce. Gold futures posted a weekly loss of about 3.4% on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was up 1.04% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading to $123.88.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures gained 1.30% to $21.54 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Although gold\u2019s safe-haven appeal tends to burnish in the times of uncertainty, investors are reluctant to take bets even as the government shutdown enters third week.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers continued with their negotiations over the weekend; and, although some progress was made on Sunday, there is still no guarantee whether the U.S. will avoid the debt-default.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Reuters, a Hong Kong based precious metal dealer said, \u201cPeople are worried about the U.S. situation and their first reaction is to hold cash and only then they look at safe haven assets like gold,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is why if the U.S. doesn&#8217;t find a solution, gold will be sold initially,\u201d warned the dealer.<\/p>\n<p>Gold\u2019s fading investment appeal is reflected by falling holdings in the world\u2019s top gold-backed exchange traded fund, the SPDR Gold Trust.<\/p>\n<p>A data provided by Reuters showed that the holdings of the fund fell another 5.40 tons on Friday to 890.98 tons.
