{"id":47878,"date":"2013-10-14T13:53:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-14T13:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-pares-early-gains-as-washington-nears-deal-silver-prices-gain\/47874\/"},"modified":"2013-10-14T13:53:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-14T13:53:00","slug":"gold-pares-early-gains-as-washington-nears-deal-silver-prices-gain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-pares-early-gains-as-washington-nears-deal-silver-prices-gain\/47878\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Pares Early Gains as Washington Nears Deal; Silver Prices Gain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> pared earlier gains and were on course to clock a slightly higher finish on Monday as lawmakers looked nearing a deal over the both budget and debt-ceiling issue. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> were higher in trading on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47878\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures for December delivery added 0.63% to $1,276.20 an ounce while spot gold edged up 0.3% to $1,276.46 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was up 0.58% to $123.31 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Gold, which posted about 3.4% weekly loss last Friday amid dwindling holdings from the world\u2019s top gold-backed exchange traded funds and huge sell-offs at COMEX December futures, gained some traction earlier during the day mainly due to short coverings.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the metal failed to breach $1,300 an ounce level as market participants expected lawmakers to break the impasse by reaching an eleventh-hour deal.<\/p>\n<p>The contention was accurate. Towards the end of the session, gold came under pressure while equities bounced back after a shaky start when Senator Harry Reid told the Associated Press that the Senate was \u201cgetting closer\u201d to a deal, which would bring an end to the shutdown and allow\u00a0 the Treasury to raise its borrowing limit.
