{"id":47893,"date":"2013-10-15T08:31:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-15T08:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-silver-prices-nosedive-as-lawmakers-make-significant-progress-over-budget-talks\/47888\/"},"modified":"2013-10-15T08:31:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-15T08:31:00","slug":"gold-silver-prices-nosedive-as-lawmakers-make-significant-progress-over-budget-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-silver-prices-nosedive-as-lawmakers-make-significant-progress-over-budget-talks\/47893\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold, Silver Prices Nosedive as Lawmakers Make Significant Progress over Budget Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> plunged more than 1.5% during Asian trading hours on Tuesday while global equities rallied amid rising expectation that lawmakers in Washington will soon reach a deal over spending and debt-ceiling limit, bringing an end to a nationwide government shutdown and averting unprecedented debt default. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also plunged in early trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47893\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures for December delivery plunged 1.61% to $1,256 an ounce while spot gold was down 1.02% to $1,259.81 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) lost 0.90% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading to $121.76.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures tumbled 3.25% to $20.66 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers made significant progress over budget talks on Monday. After the conclusion of the meeting on Monday, Senator Harry Reid, a Democrat said that he had made a \u201ctremendous progress\u201d during his meeting with counterpart Mitch McConnell, a Republican, adding that the deal could be reached as soon as Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Falling holdings at the world\u2019s top gold-backed ETF, the SPDR Gold Trust, is also knocking down investors\u2019 faith on gold.<\/p>\n<p>The trust reported further outflows of 1.8 tons on Monday. Holdings at the trust are now at 4 \u00bd year low level, according to Reuters.
