{"id":47981,"date":"2013-10-18T08:17:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T08:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-edge-lower-silver-prices-also-slip-6\/47975\/"},"modified":"2013-10-18T08:17:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-18T08:17:00","slug":"gold-prices-edge-lower-silver-prices-also-slip-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-edge-lower-silver-prices-also-slip-6\/47981\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Edge Lower; Silver Prices Also Slip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> slipped during Asian trading hours on Friday but were on course to post best weekly performance in last two months as Washington\u2019s stop-gap budget deal has triggered speculation that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> will be now be disinclined to taper its asset purchases anytime soon due to economic uncertainty. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices also slipped in early trading on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47981\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery edged down 0.42% to $1,317.40 an ounce while spot gold slipped 0.13% to $1,317.39 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was down 0.17% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading to $127.21.<\/p>\n<p>Silver futures fell 0.37% to $21.86 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Gold prices, which plunged about 4% ever since the shutdown started, rallied more than 3% on Thursday as the dollar fell sharply against all major traded currencies, making commodities cheaper for dealers holding other currencies. On Thursday, the dollar index fell to its eight-month low.<\/p>\n<p>According to Reuters, two big separate buy orders at COMEX December futures also supported the rally.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Wednesday, a bipartisan agreement was struck in Washington, under which the Treasury is allowed to extend its borrowing authority until Feb 7 and federal agencies will receive funding until Jan. 15.
