Investors were also cautious ahead of the release of September nonfarm payrolls on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-48040\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended the day 0.05% lower at 15,392.20, the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/indices\/sp500\/today\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"snp500 today\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> ended the day 0.01% higher at 1,744.66, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nasdaq\/today.aspx\">Nasdaq<\/a> ended the day 0.15% higher at 3,920.05.<\/p>\n<p>Healthcare sector was the worst performer in the S&amp;P 500 in trading today, ending the day 0.44% lower. Consumer Non-Cyclical sector also edged lower, ending the day 0.28% lower. Basic Materials sector was the best performer in the S&amp;P 500, ending the day 0.47% higher. Industrials ended the day 0.32% higher. Technology sector rose 0.45%.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major movers on Monday included Crosstex Energy Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=XTXI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ: XTXI<\/a>), which ended the day 71.46% higher at $35.32, Netflix Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=NFLX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ: NFLX<\/a>), which ended the day 6.44% higher at $354.99, and McDonald\u2019s Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=MCD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: MCD<\/a>), which ended the day 0.64% lower at $94.59.<\/p>\n<p>On the economic front, a report from the National Association of Realtors showed that existing home sales fell 1.9% to an annual rate of 5.29 million in September. Economists were expecting existing home sales to fall 2.9%. All eyes are now set on the September nonfarm payrolls, which has been delayed due to the government shutdown. The data will be released on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>European markets ended on a mixed note on Monday, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.48% higher, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 0.21% lower.
