{"id":48107,"date":"2013-10-24T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-24T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-gain-silver-prices-also-edge-higher-3\/48099\/"},"modified":"2013-10-24T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-24T08:00:00","slug":"gold-prices-gain-silver-prices-also-edge-higher-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-gain-silver-prices-also-edge-higher-3\/48107\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Gain; Silver Prices Also Edge Higher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> edged higher during Asian trading hours on Thursday after falling in previous session amid expectation that the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> have also edged higher in early trading on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-48107\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, December gold futures gained 0.43% to $1,339.80 an ounce while spot gold rose 0.57% to $1,339.31 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) was up 0.37% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/movers\/premarket\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trading to $129.16.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures added 0.52% to $22.73 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Investors\u2019 faith in gold revived somewhat last Tuesday after the Labor Department\u2019s weaker-than-expected non-farm payrolls data confirmed that the U.S. economy was going through a sluggish recovery.<\/p>\n<p>The data stoked expectations that the Fed, which meets on Oct. 29-30 for the next open market committee meeting, might extend or even expand its multi-billion dollar asset purchase program until early next year.<\/p>\n<p>Gold price have lost about 20% year-to-data amid speculation that the Fed might start to scale down its gold-supportive asset purchase program before the year-end.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, all eyes will be on new home sales data. In case, home sales also show weakness then policymakers will have a very strong case in favor of extending its quantitative easing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mortgage rate has been rising since June and we know jobs data was not as good as expected in September.
