These comments follow Trump’s announcement of a deal with Vladimir Putin to supply hundreds of thousands of tonnes of Russian diesel to the U.S. to combat prices that have surged 63% over the past year.

The global energy landscape remains volatile as Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The strike killed 12 people and injured over 300, prompting UN Secretary-General António Guterres to issue a strong condemnation. Analysts warn that the continued targeting of Saudi aviation and energy hubs, combined with the ongoing U.S. naval blockade of Iran, is keeping oil prices under significant upward pressure.

Domestic Policy and Legal Actions

The U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) has opened a "highly unusual" antitrust probe into the nation's largest television networks: ABC (Disney (DIS)), CBS (Paramount Global (PARA)), CNN (Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD)), NBC (Comcast (CMCSA)), and Fox News (FOXA). The investigation focuses on whether the networks' temporary suspension of the White House press pool—in solidarity after the administration banned several outlets—constituted an illegal "group boycott" under the Sherman Act.

In political developments, Trump has publicly urged Democratic Senator John Fetterman to join the Republican Party. The overture comes as Fetterman increasingly clashes with his own party on issues such as immigration and Israel. While Fetterman has publicly stated he remains a Democrat, the potential for a party switch looms large ahead of midterm elections that will determine control of the Senate.

Cyber Security and Natural Disasters

The FBI has arrested a Canadian ransomware negotiator as part of a broader international crackdown on the ShinyHunters hacking group. The group recently claimed a massive breach of the FBI’s own personnel data, exposing the records of thousands of agents. This arrest follows a string of successful law enforcement operations targeting high-profile cybercriminal syndicates linked to Russia and Iran.

On the environmental front, Hurricane Isaias has caused significant disruption across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. The storm, which made landfall with 105 mph winds, was responsible for at least four deaths—primarily due to falling trees and generator-related accidents. Utility companies are working to restore power to over 670,000 customers as the system weakens into a post-tropical cyclone moving
