The departure ends a decade-long tenure that began when Alphabet (GOOGL) first invested in the aerospace giant in 2015. While the resignation comes just five months after SpaceX's historic IPO, the company clarified that the move was not due to any disagreements regarding operations or policies.

Despite Harrison’s exit, the strategic alliance between the two tech titans remains robust. Alphabet (GOOGL) remains the largest institutional investor in SpaceX, with a stake valued at approximately $74 billion. Furthermore, the companies continue to collaborate on high-value projects, including a compute-capacity agreement worth up to $920 million per month and the joint "Project Suncatcher" chip initiative.

Geopolitical Conflict and Defense Impacts

In a significant escalation of deep-strike capabilities, Ukrainian forces targeted the JSC Proton-Elektrotex plant in Russia's Oryol region on November 7. Reports indicate the facility was hit by Flamingo cruise missiles, a development that underscores Ukraine's growing domestic or modified missile arsenal. The plant is a vital node in Russia's military-industrial complex, producing optoelectronic components for Iskander-M ballistic missiles and Pantsir-S1 air defense systems.

The strike on the Proton-Elektrotex main production building is expected to complicate Russia's manufacturing of precision-guided munitions. Analysts suggest that the systematic targeting of microelectronics facilities is a strategic move to degrade the Russian military's long-term replenishment capabilities. This follows a pattern of recent Ukrainian strikes on other high-tech industrial targets, including the Tolyattikauchuk synthetic rubber plant.

Regional Politics and Market Trends

In Taiwan, the political landscape is shifting as the November 28 "Nine-in-One" local elections approach. Incumbent Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an of the Kuomintang (KMT) is facing a formidable challenge from the DPP’s Puma Shen. Recent polling shows the gap has narrowed to single digits, with some surveys placing Chiang at 46% and Shen at 42%. The contest is viewed as a critical litmus test for the 2028 presidential election and the KMT's ability to maintain its traditional stronghold in the capital.

Meanwhile, in the consumer sector, a surprising trend has emerged in South Korea where Japanese bamboo chopsticks have become a viral sensation. Manufacturer Yamachiku reported selling 140,000 pairs in a single 40-minute TV shopping segment. This surge in demand for premium Japanese kitchenware suggests a thawing or evolution in consumer sentiment, despite historical trade tensions between the two nations, providing a boost to specialized Japanese exporters.

Key Takeaways Google (GOOGL) executive Donald Harrison has resigned from the SpaceX board after a decade of service, following
