Egypt has been grappling with a growing energy crisis, marked by declining domestic gas production and increased reliance on imports. The long-term delivery of LNG from QatarEnergy is expected to play a crucial role in meeting Egypt's rising energy demand, especially during peak consumption periods, and mitigating potential power cuts. Discussions have also been initiated for additional and long-term LNG supplies beyond the initial 24 cargoes.

The ministers also reviewed the status of drilling plans in projects where QatarEnergy is involved, including the Nefertari, Cairo, Masry, and North Marakia wells in the Mediterranean Sea, in partnership with ExxonMobil (XOM). QatarEnergy has expressed keen interest in expanding its operations and increasing investments in Egypt's exploration and production activities, as evidenced by a recent agreement with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Chevron (CVX) for a share in the North Dabaa offshore concession area. This strategic partnership aims to support Egypt's ambition to become a net gas exporter again by 2027.
